Statewide NBCT Leadership Conference for NBCTs


This year's conference was held April 29th through May 1st at the Sleeping Lady in Leavenworth. The theme was "Branching Out In Leadership". Nine sessions were offered. Each session focused on a particular area of teacher leadership. For the first time, this year's conference was offered for only new NBCTs, and the sessions were all facilitated by Washington State NBCTs. A conference later in the summer is scheduled for NBCTs who certified before 2004. Please check our upcoming events section to learn more.

The following is a list of the sessions offered this year to the newly certified NBCTs:

•Lesson Study

Guiding Question: How can lesson study improve teaching and learning in my school?
  •Professional Certification/National Board Facilitation

Essential Question: How are teachers being used as leaders in the state, and what leadership roles can I assume?

•Critical Friends Group

Essential Question: What makes a Critical Friends Group a community of practice?

  •The Maturing of Educational Reform: Finding your place as an NBCT

Essential Question: How can National Board Certified Teachers take leadership in keeping Washington Educational Reform an integrated whole?
•Mentoring: Maximizing the Potential of NBCT's and Colleagues: New and Experienced

Essential Questions: How can we serve as mentors in diverse educational settings and use resources and skills to mentor new teachers effectively?

How can we serve as mentors for experienced colleagues as they continue their professional development journey?
  •Negotiating with Influential People

Essential Question: How Can You Make A Difference?

•Communicating Your Story

Essential Objective: To inform and motivate participants so they leave believing they have the capacity to share their stories.
•The Differentiated Teacher: Teacher/Leader Models in Washington
