CSTP is uniquely strategic in its focus on providing access to robust research and data for informing policy decisions, its implementation of training and programs to retain quality teachers and develop their leadership skills, and its role in facilitating clear communications and dialogue between the general public, the education community and policymakers.
CSTP is a source for accurate, nonpartisan information about the teaching conditions in Washington. With its research partners, CSTP generates timely and comprehensive analytical reports, user-friendly brochures, Web-based synopses and electronic communications to help legislators and the education community arrive at well-informed program and policy decisions. In addition, CSTP collects research and data from other states relevant to issues impacting Washington.
CSTP is dedicated to expanding teachers’ capacity for leadership and ability to inform policy. To amplify the voice of teachers in shaping local and state policies, CSTP develops teachers' skills in speaking and writing, identifies opportunities for experienced teachers to participate in policy discussions and supports a network of accomplished teachers interested in expanding their capacity for leadership.
Washington has no lack of ideas about how to ensure quality teaching. To inform the dialogue and move from ideas to actions, CSTP convenes stakeholders on topics of interest in venues across the state. The recommendations emerging from these events are distributed to education stakeholders, policymakers and the public.
