President Obama and Education Secretary Duncan want to re-envision the federal government's role in K-12 public education and have produced The Blueprint for Reform laying out this vision and their goals and objectives for the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The components in the competitive Race to the Top Grants and the Investing in Innovation Grants (i3) foreshadowed the kinds of changes Obama and Duncan want to infuse into ESEA and that they explainin the Blueprint.
It focuses on several key priorities. 1) Career and college ready students; 2) Great teachers and leaders in every school; 3) Meeting the needs of English learners and other diverse learners; 4) A complete education; 5) Successful, safe and healthy students; 6) Fostering innovation and excellence.
