With support from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession formed the New Teacher Alliance in 2006. In collaboration with Washington State's Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, seven school districts and two educational service districts committed to improve their practice in five areas of teacher induction: hiring, orientation, mentoring, professional development and assessment of teacher learning.
