We are back ...to remind you about the Washington NBCT Network, dedicated to connecting NBCTs to their educational policymakers. Our third year continues to be sponsored by the Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession (CSTP).
Our goals continue to be very simple:
As we begin our third year, we are stepping back and refocusing on who we mean by the "policymakers". We would like to redefine what a policymaker is and what each actually has control over. Have you ever found yourself complaining to or about OSPI when it comes to curriculum related issues? Did you realize most of the curriculum related decisions are made by your local school board?
We will begin locally looking at our local school boards as policymakers that directly impact education in our home school districts we teach in. In our November newsletter we will give you some tips on how to go about making the connections/contacts with these school board members.
In the mean time....with the Nov. 4th elections drawing nearer, and the closeness of many races, we would like to encourage you all as professional educators, to talk with your family, friends, and people you see at soccer or football games. It is critical that voters KNOW what each position has control over, related to educational issues. Be an educational advocate and speak to these people....get the word out to VOTE....which of course is the ultimate way to impact all of our policymakers.
We will be back shortly after the elections with another newsletter. We hope to present some ideas and examples that will help us all work towards our WNN goals.
Thank you!
