NBCT Webinar on ESEA Reauthorization

The White House and Congress are beginning a major effort to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), previously known as No Child Left Behind. The US Department of Education released its, "A Blueprint for Reform," on March 15. This document provides the broad outline for the reauthorizationof the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which will now begin in earnest.

On Thursday, April 1, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm (Pacific time), the Department will host a webinar open to all NBCTs, but space is limited and registration is required. Go to National Board's website for more information. The webinar will include two NBCTs currently working in the Department. The Blueprint will be discussed in detail, so the more familiar you are with the proposal, the more valuable input you will be able to provide. The section, Great Teachers and Great Leaders begins on page 13.

As policymakers grapple with the difficult issues that surround the reauthorization-and "fixing" No Child Left Behind - it is essential that they are informed by the perspectives of those who are in the classroom everyday. Now is the time for the accomplished teacher voice to be heard.
