This morning two NBCTs and one NB candidate testified before the House Ways & Means Committee regarding a National Board bill. NBCT Katie Taylor from the Clover Park School District, NBCT Michaela Miller from OSPI and NB candidate Noah Zeichner from Seattle School District testified in opposition to House Bill 3193 which would reduce the challenging schools bonus of $5,000 to $2,500. CSTP, WEA and OSPI worked collaboratively to bring this panel together to testify on the bill as each organization strongly values and supports the work of accomplished teachers.
Prior to their testimony, members of the committee asked staff some astute questions about the impact of this bonus on the distribution of NBCTs across Washington, its effect on teacher retention in challenging schools as well as research about the impact of NBCTs on student learning.
