Pre-Conference Sessions
Tuesday, November 3
Bruce Wellman
Using data to focus the attention and energy in a conversation keeps the interaction learning-focused and student-centered. But data explorations can create denial, dismissal and defensiveness. Participants in this full-day session will learn how to design engaging data explorations with both quantitative and qualitative data using templates and tools to structure professional interactions between colleagues, both one-to-one and in small groups.
Laura Lipton
Knowing how to structure effective processes, relevant content and authentic collaboration produces work sessions that balance participation, use time efficiently and achieve their purposes. This full-day session explores seven premises of group work and their related design principals. Participants will expand their repertoire of strategies for monitoring and managing the productive energy of group members, and learn a variety of individual, small and large group strategies that support high levels of engagement for exploring, connecting and applying new ideas to professional practice.
Barb Lawson
For those who have not had training on the verbal and non-verbal skills of mentoring or coaching, this session will provide relational and communication skills for the mentor/coach. Participants will develop skills to conduct learning-focused conversations that support teacher thinking.
