Report on Common Core and Career and Technical Education

The adoption of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) by a majority of the states creates fertile ground for rethinking Career and Technical Education's (CTE) role in preparing our students to be college- and career-ready.  A recent report published by Achieve recognizes current progress and identifies common barriers education leaders face in integrating CCSS and CTE.  To address these challenges, this study outlines eight strategies education leaders can use to maximize the synergy between CCSS and the CTE community. Highlighted strategies focus on improving planning, collaboration, communication, and monitoring CCSS implementation within CTE and across academic disciplines.  For example, one strategy calls for enhancing literacy and math instruction within CTE courses.
