Washington 2009 NBCT Leadership Conference

The Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction invited all 2008 NBCTs and NBCTs who had not previously attended this event to join us for Washingtons 2009 NBCT Leadership Conference May 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The attendees shared their expertise, learned from their colleagues and considered new leadership opportunities in a beautiful setting. This was not a typical conference on teaching practices! The unique agenda was planned to allow time for informal conversation, as well as more structured sessions to give tools, resources and ideas for possible new NBCT leadership roles or expansion of existing roles. The planning team and the presenters for this event were all Washington NBCTs.

NBCT Network Goal: Washington's National Board Certified Teachers will use their expertise to influence education reform beyond their classrooms.

Conference Goals:

  • Strengthen connections among participants in order to build the statewide network into a learning community that supports NBCTs in their leadership roles.
  • Learn successful strategies to infuse NBCTs into local efforts.
  • Promote high-quality professional development in schools across the state.
  • Explore strategies for expanding influence from the classroom to schools, districts and beyond.
