NBCT Leadership Conference

CONFERENCE GOAL:   Develop the leadership skills of newly certified National Board Certified Teachers and provide an opportunity for them to network with other members of the statewide teacher leader network in order to learn how to influence education reform and seed innovation beyond their classrooms.

For the past eight years, CSTP has partnered with OSPI to offer a leadership conference designed to give NBCTs the opportunity to develop or hone the skills they need to be effective leaders in their schools, districts and in the larger educational community so that the best possible conditions exist for Washington State students to learn.

Each year the conference served approximately 175 teachers from every corner of the state, including those from large and small districts, urban and rural. The conference has included a large group presentation and discussion focused on dilemmas in teacher leadership. Participants have then attended breakout sessions of their choice, each detailing a particular leadership role open to Washington National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). In between formal sessions opportunities have been available for reflection and networking.   The conferences give newly certified NBCTs time and information to think about their current roles as leaders and what roles they might like to pursue in the future in order to positively impact student learning at the school, district or state level.   The planning team, facilitators and presenters are all Washington State NBCTs.
