Critical Friends Group

A Critical Friends Group is a learning community of six to 10 educators who collaborate regularly to improve their practice in order to improve student achievement. The members of a CFG bring student work, teacher work and professional literature for focused analysis and feedback from their colleagues. The guidance of a trained facilitator and the use of protocols (written structures) help members develop the trust and safety necessary for both sharing their practices and offering feedback about each other's practice. Through these regular meetings that respond directly to the needs of the members, CFGs provide ongoing and collaborative professional development.
